Purple Ikat

One of my favourites - this is a cotton screen-printed by Kokka in Japan. Its green credentials are impossible to trace beyond the organic cotton used in many of its designs, presumably this one as well. The design itself is this lovely series of geometric crosses and cross-stitch patterns, which along with the light to medium weight of the fabric give it a really nice structured drape. The background is a lovely deep purple, and the combination of drape and colour made me instantly think of a workplace outfit. I have 4m of this fabric, bought during Nunoya’s last warehouse clear-out sale. In that sense the fabric is sustainable, since it would have just gone to landfill without the hordes of shoppers clearing out Nunoya’s stock! But since I can’t fully trace anything else, I can’t confidently say it’s a 100% sustainable piece.
